Sacramental Life

Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is available for anyone who needs it, either in the church at regular Mass or at home for shut-ins.  Call or email the office at 410-867-2059 or email the parish office Elizabeth.Dixon@archbalt.org to request this sacrament.

Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament of life with God and membership in the Church, through the parents commitment to raise their child in their gift of faith.  Participation in a Baptismal Preparation Class for parents is required.  The class is held on the first Monday of every month at 7:00pm.  Please call the parish office (410-867-2059) to register.  Celebration of Baptism typically takes place at 12:15pm on Sundays but may be held at any Mass of your choice.

Communion of the Sick

Communion is available to shut-ins at any time, for any reason.  Please call the office at 410-867-2059 or email the parish secretary at Elizabeth.Dixon@archbalt.org

Confirmation

In our Religious Education program students in the tenth grade participate in preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.  As with First Communion, students must have completed at least the previous year of formal, or conventional, Religious Education class.  The Confirmation program starts with the "Summer of Discernment" to give students a chance to decide whether or not they are ready to make the commitment required to take the class and become confirmed.  Confirmation classes are held on selected Sunday mornings.  For more information contact our Coordinator of Faith Formation, Dcn Tim Mikules - 410-867-1941.

First Eucharist

Children usually prepare for the sacrament of First Eucharist in the second grade but can participate at any age.  Children who wish to prepare for First Eucharist must have completed at least the previous year of formal, or conventional, Faith Formation class.  For more information contact our Coordinator of Faith Formation, Dcn Tim Mikules - 410-867-1941.

Funeral

We encourage families to participate in the planning of the Liturgy so that it will be a meaningful experience.  There is a booklet available at the rectory to help loved ones choose readings and other parts of the funeral Mass; you can stop by the office any time to pick one up.  Please call 410-867-2059 or email our parish secretary at Elizabeth.Dixon@archbalt.org to set up an appointment to make funeral arrangements.

Marriage

Our Lady of Sorrows marriage preparation program consists of couples trained by the Archdiocese working with engaged couples to help prepare them for the sacrament of marriage.  Various programs are offered; weekend getaways, large group meetings set up by the Archdiocese, or one-on-one meetings with the sponsor couple.

The married, parish sponsor couple helps the engaged couple address relevant issues, following an effective curriculum of instruction in Catholic teaching.  The FOCCUS pre-marriage inventory is included in all programs.  They meet with the engaged couple about five times (six times for Remarriage couples) to facilitate their communication and reflection on their key issues.  These meetings are held in the comfort of the sponsor couple's home.

The first step in the process is meeting with our pastor, Fr. Rich.  Please call the office at 410-867-2059 or email our parish secretary at Elizabeth.Dixon@archbalt.org to arrange an appointment.

RCIA

If you or someone you know is contemplating joining the Catholic Church, RCIA classes can help you discern if this is truly where you are being called. Classes begin in September. Confirmation takes place at the Easter Vigil. Those interested should contact Father Rich at the parish office (410-867-2059 or email our parish secretary at Elizabeth.Dixon@archbalt.org).
